Subject: General Session on June 14

The idea of having the general session on June 14 does not look to
good for the psychology part.  The conference at MIT which Roger Schank
and Bonnie Nash-Webber have organized (Theoretical Issues in Natural
Language Processing) will be held June 10-13 at MIT.  Except for Colby,
everyone whom we have invited (including myself) are participants in 
that conference.The last session is on Friday June 13 from 3:00 to 5:30
and I doubt if people will want to fly or drive immediately from Boston
to New Brunswick and then give some more papers the next day.  There is
a silver lining though--that may save us some money on travel. I received
the letter from Bonnie yesterday giving this tentative schedule.  Before
it wasn't clear that the conference would be funded--but it was and
it is now for sure.  I received a note from Roger Schank accepting
the invitation to the workshop and indicating that he would also
like to bring Chris Riesbeck along as well which is fine since Chris
will undoubtedly be the one who will know most about system type details.
Haven't yet heard from any of the other invitees.  Will let you know
when I do.

CHUCK SCHMIDT AND OTHERS HERE HAVE TALKED THINGS OVER AND
IT IS NOW FINALIZED THAT THE GENERAL SESSION WILL BE HELD
ON SATURDAY JUNE 14.  IT WILL BE DIFFICULT FOR THE PEOPLE
ATTENDING THE MIT NATURAL LANGUAGE CONFERENCE TO FLY OR DRIVE
OVER IMMEDIATELY, BUT WE HAVE TO EITHER COAX THEM TO DO SO,
OR ACCEPT THAT THEY WILL NOT BE ATTHE GENERAL SESSION RIGHT FROM
START.
